Felt Sensing and With-Sensing (Focusing) Training

The Felt Sensing and With-Sensing (also called Focusing and Listening) Training is a 50 hour certificate that consitsts of five 10-hour courses.

You can start with the introduction and decide later if you want to do the full traning.

What you will learn

In this five part training, you will learn the wonderful processes of Focusing/Felt Sensing and sensing together with (With-Sensing) in reciprocal partnership.

This entials getting in touch with your bodily wisdom through listening to yourself and others in a welcoming, agendaless, non-judgemental, open, interested and curious way.

Since Felt Sensing is largely practiced in reciprocal partnership, the course includes partnership with other participants of the group, both in class and between classes.

What you can do with the training

When you’ve completed the 5 courses, you will be eligible for exchanging Focusing with an equal partner, and can participate in advanced Focusing/Felt Sensing courses.

The Felt Sensing training and With-Sensing Training is the prerequisite for starting the Teacher/Practitioner Training with a Certifying Coordinator, which leads to being certified for teaching Focusing to others one-on-one and/or in goups.

Proficiency in Focusing Partnership (PFP)

Anyone with the full training should be eligible and able to join the Partnership Network with The International Focusing Institute.

If you would like for me to recommend you for the Proficiency in Focusing Partnership (PFP) Award, you need to do at least the 4 first courses of this training or equivalent. Contact me if you would like such a recommendation.

2. The With-Senser (listener)

This is the second course of the 5, building on th first, where we go deeper into the With-Senser’s role.

You will get to know the interesting way of listening without being responsible, and the liberation of being of help without having to know details of the other person’s content.

We explore ways of responding and reflecting as ways of supporting the Felt Senser without being intrusive to, but rather trusting in, the process.

The goal of this course is to become safer in the role of listener, and to be able to ‘lean into’ and trusting the Felt Sensing process.

3. The Body in Felt Sensing

This is the third of the five courses that together constitute the Felt Sensing-Training. In this course we learn what “body” and “surroundings” are in Felt Sensing, and go deeper into “togetherness” and the “We-space”.

We get to know more about why and how Gendlin claims that we can know “more” with our body than with our minds, and why it is useful to turn towards that which has not yet formed. We will discover that it is not necessary to be verbal or to always have to put into words what arises in Felt Sensing.

One goal is to get to feel more safe in your own body through Felt Sensing, and with your own expressions and feelings, as well as being in a “we”, both in Sensing Partnership and in life in general.

Prerequisite: Having completed the two first courses of this training.

Topics

  • What is “the body” in Felt Sensing?
  • The connection to the world in Felt Sensing
  • How to be with that which comes without words
  • Gestures, movements and positions in Felt-Sensing
  • Comfortability with the body
  • The We-space

Teaching methods

  • Sharing of theory and philosophy
  • Demonstrations
  • Group discussions
  • Exercises and trying out in the group
  • Partnership in class
  • Reflections

4. The space of not knowing

This is the fourth course of the 5, where we will deepen our understanding of the complexity of listening with openness to that which is unclear. We will look at Gendlin’s concepts of Felt Sense and Felt Shift in more detail, to know what it is that we are listening for, and how we can take in and enjoy when change happens in the body.

The goal is to feel even safer in the contact within, seeing the healing effect of acceptance, and discover that there is much “life” also in that which seems stuck, dark and scary, and even that which seems dead

Prerequisite: having completed the three first courses of the training

Topics

  • What is clear in what’s unclear
  • Being on an “edge” together
